COUPLES

Couples Therapy

Real connection is possible—and it starts with how we care for the relationship itself.

Whether your relationship feels stuck in cycles of conflict, disconnected from intimacy, or weighed down by life transitions, couples therapy offers a structured and emotionally safe space to reconnect, reset, and move forward.

We work with couples navigating all stages of partnership—from premarital to long-term relationships—and facing a wide range of challenges, such as:

  • Communication breakdowns
  • Conflict avoidance or escalation
  • Trust injuries and betrayal
  • Recovery from substance use or behavioral addictions
  • Sexual intimacy issues or mismatched desire
  • Postpartum adjustment and parenting stress
  • Emotional cutoffs or prolonged disconnection
  • Blended family tension
  • Generational patterns
  • Post-hospitalization transitions or mental health recovery within the couple system

Some couples come because things are hard. Others come because they want to protect what they’ve built before things get harder. Either way, you’re welcome here.

💬 Gottman Method Couples Therapy

Based on more than four decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, this approach offers a practical, science-based framework to help couples build strong, lasting relationships.

In our work together, you’ll learn to:

  • Deepen friendship and emotional intimacy
  • Increase mutual respect and affection
  • Improve communication and conflict resolution
  • Navigate both solvable problems and long-standing disagreements
  • Rebuild trust after betrayal
  • Appreciate your relationship’s strengths while addressing its vulnerable spots

This method isn’t theoretical—it’s a toolkit backed by research and designed to work in the real world.

🛠 How It Works: The Phases of Therapy

Assessment Phase

  • You’ll complete relationship questionnaires to help identify your strengths and challenges.
  • We’ll meet together to discuss your shared history, major concerns, and goals.
  • I’ll meet with each of you individually to understand your personal stories.
  • I’ll then offer a clear, collaborative treatment plan based on what we uncover.

Treatment Phase

  • Most sessions are held with both partners present.
  • Sessions include structured conversation exercises, emotional connection work, and conflict repair strategies.
  • You’ll often receive tools or practices to use between sessions, especially during high-stress weeks.

Phasing Out

  • As the relationship strengthens, we’ll gradually space out sessions.
  • This gives you time to apply what you’ve learned and build new patterns independently.
  • We’ll troubleshoot together and reinforce gains.

Termination & Follow-Up

  • When you’re ready to complete therapy, we’ll meet to reflect, review what’s been accomplished, and prepare for what comes next.
  • Follow-up sessions may be scheduled at 3, 6, 12, 18, and 24 months to reduce the chances of relapse and offer fine-tuning if needed.

⏱ Session Length

Each couples session is 75 minutes long. This extended format ensures both partners have space to speak, reflect, and feel understood. Emotional safety takes time—and we structure our sessions to honor that.

🧭 Integrating Bowen Family Systems Theory

While the Gottman Method provides the day-to-day tools and structure for improving your relationship, we also incorporate principles from Bowen Family Systems Theory when helpful.

This lens allows us to explore:

  • How generational patterns shape current dynamics
  • The importance of differentiation of self (staying grounded in who you are while staying connected)
  • Emotional reactivity, anxiety, and the subtle ways they get passed down
  • How unresolved family issues may be influencing your present connection

Together, we’ll not only build new habits, but also explore what’s underneath—so the change you make is real and sustainable.

Couples therapy isn’t about winning or losing.

It’s about learning to love each other better.

We’re here to help you do that—with structure, insight, and care.
