Dr. Casey Gutierrez, therapist and founder of Relateborhood

A Personal Welcome

Hello, I’m Casey, and I’m truly honored you’re here.

Over the years, I’ve worn a lot of different uniforms. A Wendy’s visor as a teenager. Army fatigues during ten years of military service. A shirt and tie while serving as a teacher and school counselor. Today, I have the privilege of sitting across from couples and families as a therapist. Although each role has looked different, they’ve all been rooted in the same belief: every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.

Before becoming a therapist, I served in the United States Army for ten years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Afterward, I spent six years in public education working alongside children, adolescents, and families before serving for more than a decade as a supervisor of mental health clinics within a nonprofit organization. Every chapter has reinforced what I believe today, that healing grows through relationships built on consistency, compassion, and courage.

Whether I’m meeting with a couple in crisis, a family navigating difficult transitions, or an individual working to strengthen the relationships that matter most, my goal is always the same: to create an emotionally safe space where people can slow down, better understand themselves, and move toward healthier ways of loving and being loved.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

Relationships don’t struggle because people stop loving one another. More often, they become caught in patterns that neither partner intended to create.

My work with couples is centered on helping partners understand those patterns, strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and reconnect emotionally. I primarily use the Gottman Method, an evidence-based approach backed by decades of research that provides practical tools for improving friendship, managing conflict, and creating lasting intimacy.

Whether you’re recovering from an affair, navigating addiction, adjusting after hospitalization, or simply wanting to strengthen an already good relationship, my goal is to help you build a relationship that feels secure, connected, and resilient.

Credentials & Training

I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy, with doctoral training focused specifically on treating couples and families. I am licensed as a Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas, as well as a licensed professional counselor in Colorado. My clinical work includes advanced Gottman Method training (Levels 1–3), Bowen Family Systems Theory, Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), systemic family therapy, and addiction recovery. I have also contributed to published research involving military families.

My Approach to Family Therapy

Families are more than the individuals who make them up. They are emotional systems that influence one another every day.

Using Bowen Family Systems Theory, I help families understand how anxiety, communication, and generational patterns shape their relationships. Together, we work to strengthen connection, improve communication, increase personal responsibility, and create healthier patterns that benefit the entire family, not just one individual.
